Youth Program
INTRODUCTION
The goal of ACAS Youth Program is to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate education and outreach to East and Southeast Asian youth, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, queer, curious, undecided, or questioning youth, across Toronto. All our activities are based on a non-judgmental peer education approach.
PROGRAM SERVICES
- Workshops on HIV/STI Prevention Education.
- Peer Educator Training for youth to become TARO Buddies to facilitate workshop and conduct outreach.
- Outreach at community events, club/bars, and fair.
- Social Events for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, queer, curious, undecided, or questioning East & Southeast Asian youth through QAY, our Queer Asian Youth program. (Check QAY Website)
- Multilingual brochures and resources on prevention, testing, coming out, and other issues related to healthy sexuality. (See Resources)
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Queer Asian Youth (QAY): QAY provides safe and supportive social spaces for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, queer, curious, undecided, or questioning East and Southeast Asian youth and their friends. QAY organizes Bubble Tea Lounge, Movie Nites, Games Nites, and other fun events. All events are organized by QAY volunteers, and volunteers get together every month to plan the future QAY events.
Queer Luck Club: Fun and interactive workshops for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, queer, curious, undecided, or questioning East and Southeast Asian youth on topics of safer sex, healthy sexuality, body image, anti-racism, anti-homophobia, anti-oppression, coming out, harm reduction, and other topics/issues affecting youth facilitated by youth peer educators.
